All about Reception

Information for Parents

Working with your children this year are Miss Brough, Mrs Barr and Mrs Lyon.

We firmly believe in the value of learning through play. Children learn best through play based activities and first hand experiences.

You can find our objectives that we want the children to meet by the end of Reception in a document called ‘Development Matters’.

Each day, the children will have a mixture of whole class learning and smaller group learning. All the areas of learning that we teach are taught holistically to promote the highest level of development.  Every morning we will teach Phonics, English and Mathematics. In the afternoons we will cover other subjects including; PE, RE, Understanding the World and Art and Design.

Autumn Term

Our focused topics this term are as follows:

Topic – ‘Me Myself and I’ – We will cover many aspects about ourselves – making friends, building relationships, name writing, family, healthy eating and our bodies.

RE – Myself, Welcome and Birthday.

PE – Dance and Gymnastics.

Children’s interests.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and we ask that it can be returned on the Monday. Homework will consist of a small activity of usually Phonics or Maths to promote the children’s learning in class.

Reading books will be sent home when the children are starting to segment and blend words accurately. Your child will be assigned a reading day. This is the day when we ask for your child’s books to be in school so they can be changed.

Remote Learning

Please use Oxford Reading Buddy

Children should read at least 1 book per week and answer 1 quiz per week.

Children in reception have been sent home a hard copy of a learning home pack and regular updates will be via twitter feeds. If you do not have a twitter account these feeds you can access them below.
