Live Simply

Live Simply
At Our Lady of Compassion, we live simply by making thoughtful choices, reducing waste and appreciating the gifts God has given us. Through recycling, reusing resources and caring for one another, we learn that small actions can make a big difference.
Global Action
Our children learned about global poverty and sustainable food production by supporting CAFOD through our annual Harvest Appeal. They donated food and raised funds to help families around the world, while Catholic Social Teaching assemblies helped them understand how even small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
Local Action
We encouraged our school community to live more simply by reducing unnecessary waste. Weekly electronic newsletters replaced printed copies and included eco tips created by our pupils, inspiring families to make sustainable choices both at home and in school.
School Action
Our children helped to create our Prayer Garden as a peaceful space for prayer and reflection. Complete with a chapel and prayer resources, it gave pupils the opportunity to appreciate God's gifts, spend time in prayer and reflect on how they could live more simply. The garden remained open to the whole school as a lasting legacy of our Live Simply journey.

Live Sustainably
We live sustainably by caring for God's creation and protecting the environment. Through our Eco Committee, Forest School, tree planting and environmental projects, we encourage everyone to look after our world for future generations.
Global Action
Our children learned about their responsibility to care for God's creation through Operation Ocelot during Big Green Week. By dressing in green and raising money, they helped protect an area of the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest the size of our school playground, while learning how their actions can protect wildlife and the environment.
Local Action
Our children created a School Community Vegetable and Herb Garden, growing fresh produce for members of our school and local community to enjoy. Pupils from across the school helped prepare, plant and care for the garden, encouraging sustainable food growing and reducing food miles.
School Action
Our Eco Committee led sustainability projects across the school, including planting trees, organising litter picking, improving recycling, promoting energy and water conservation, and encouraging others to care for the environment. Through these initiatives, our children inspired the whole school community to make sustainable choices and protect God's creation.
Live in Solidarity
We live in solidarity by supporting people both locally and around the world. Through fundraising, charity work, prayer and community projects, we show compassion, stand alongside those in need and put our faith into action.
Global Action
Our children stood in solidarity with communities around the world by taking part in CAFOD's Step Up to the Plate campaign. They learned about global food inequality, wrote to the Government to call for change and created colourful plates to share their message, showing that everyone has a role in building a fairer world.
Local Action
Our whole school supported the Nugent Good Shepherd Appeal, raising over £1,000 through class fundraising activities. Year 3 proudly presented the donation at a Mass in Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, where they learned how Nugent supports vulnerable children, young people and families across our local community.
School Action
We demonstrated solidarity within our own school community by recycling and donating good-quality school uniforms to families who needed them. Our children also designed posters to promote the initiative, helping to ensure that everyone felt supported while reducing waste and caring for one another.
